The period of time, that I was always amazed, how my friends go through it. Especially in Sweden or Norway.
That Is Something !
As Kurdistan has around 4500 Mosques, Ramadan started also there for the Muslim population.
Unfortunately, political parties like to use this time, claiming they are spreading spiritual slogans, when actually they sell their politics.
Your neighbors in Kurdistan, before the sun is up, run around knocking doors exchanging plates of food or small bowls of soup.
Children brings plates full of food and there must always someone who takes care about opening the doors 🙂
In this time you can try this very special best food of the Kurdish mother.
If you were Muslim and you do your fast, you would love to be Kurdish !
And don’t even ask how hardly active become in this time Islamists.
Is this a sin?
Shouldn’t Ramadan be free from any “pleasures” and “benefit gaining” ?
Well, lets leave it to God and the final day.
“When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.”
What is Ramadan about?
First of all, it is the month when the Quran was sent down to the people.
For the whole month, Muslims do not eat or drink.
They do not have sex, can not smoke and so on. And it all happens from the sunrise to the sunset. Every day.
Even chewing gum or taking medication is prohibited 🙂
It should be a time of spiritual discipline and very deep contemplation of everyone’s private relationship with God.
Sounds a bit boring and serious ? Oh no, it is totally happy time, full of joy and fun.
Each evening there is an Iftar dinner, the dinner that ends daily Ramadan fast and prepares you for the evening prayer.
After the prayer – the huge dinner can start.
When Ramadan finishes, the enormous party is on ! It is kinda Christian Christmass. It lasts 3 days and it is called Eid al-Fitr.
Even though, every Muslim is required to take part in fasting, there are also many exceptions as:
those who are ill, pregnant or nursing, menstruating, traveling. Young children also do not go through it all as well as the elderly.
Why do they even fast so hard ?
Well, it is pretty educational.
First of all, you may realize your dependence on God.
Second of all, it lets you feel how it is to be hungry and thirsty, which helps you understand the hard life of poor people.
What happens if you accidentally drink something or grab a snack during fast ? Well, you have to start everything over the next day. Not worth that !
How to get through Ramadan ?
You wake up really early !
Much before the dawn so you have time to drink and eat and pray.
Then, you go back to sleep and wake up at your normal hour to start the day.
At the evening, you will hear the final call for the prayer which means that fasting is over and there is a time for Eid al-Fitr, small snack, prayer and big dinner with friends and family.
Nowadays, there are many Applications that help you with that 🙂
So all of my Muslim friends, I pray for you so you can accomplish this mission this year !
